The Season of Lent Lent starts on Wednesday, February 10 with Ash Wednesday. Lent is the forty days before Easter (not counting Sundays) where we as a church set aside for preparation for Easter. Traditionally, Easter was the time when new confirmants would join the church, and would prepare for baptism. Today the church sets aside the season of Lent to focus on spiritual disciplines, most notably, fasting and prayer. We start Lent by celebrating Ash Wednesday, where we receive the symbol of ashes focusing on our mortality, and our desire for repentance.
Ash Wednesday We will be celebrating Ash Wednesday with the Airville community churches on Wednesday, February 10 at McKendree United Methodist at 7:30 pm. Come and join us as we celebrate the start of Lent. Please see our announcements page for the full schedule of Lent services that the Airville community churches has set up.
Moment of Meditation We are starting a new sermon series in our Sunday morning worship for Lent titled Seven Essential Questions. These are questions that both lifelong Christians and people on the edges of the church need to wrestle with in faith. Join us for Sunday, February 14 as we look at the question of "Who is Jesus?" And check out Matthew 16:13-16.
Our Mission Statement:
